Anne and Ian have informed me they will be leaving their business at the end of the season to return to blighty. I am sure that many others like me will wish them well for the future. Enjoy your retirement guys..

Very sorry to hear that. You could see this year that their were lots more non-british visitors.

My only hope is that it doesn't turn into the nearby establishment playing very loud music all day long.

Someone did say that Anne and Ian were the last British Bar Owners on the Island.

Good to hear from you again, you’ve been very quiet lately. We have decided to visit Thassos in September this year instead of the usual May visit. Less than 4 weeks to go now.
There are changes every time we visit and I’m not sure I like them all so an alternative sounds worth a try. I shall look this up and have a think. Hope you enjoy it and look forward to hearing what you think of it. I’m sure there will be Mythos there.

I'm also very sad to hear Aegean is to close and Anne and Ian are retiring.
Like Ron I wish them both all the best for their retirement.

Although we have been to Thassos several times over the last 16 years we really only found the Agean on our last visit in 2011. We are going over again during the last week of this season and really hope they will stay open until the end.


It's also sad to hear regulars going elsewhere. A change is sometimes as good as a rest but often makes people appreciate what they are missing.

Hopefully Thomai Bar is still going strong.

If only Thomsons could get a few more of the Skala Potamia establishments back onto their list as I recall there were at least four back in the day and the atmosphere used to be fantastic.

Any way its my big 60 while I'm there and I hope to be able to enjoy one or four of these and lovely egg and chips at the Aegean for my birthday lunch .

Well it's the end of the season. Did Ann and Ian close the bar? If they did it would be a sad day but I wish them well because they gave great times to a lot of people and deserve a good retirement.

Looks like the Aegean Bar is now the Aegean Studios III and IV, sleeping a total of 5 adults in each studio at a starting price of €420 per studio per week. Nice location but a bit cramped. The owner must be laughing all the way to the bank, while the guests enjoy the loud music from next door.

I hope Ann and Ian are enjoying their retirement, they deserve it and it won't be the same without them.

This year we went to an ex RAF camp in the Maldives, which is now a holiday resort. I served there 40 years ago and would you believe I managed to meet up with one of the locals I knew. We had two weeks all inclusive and the total number of guests on the resort was 15 in 2 weeks, including me and the mrs, pure bliss.

Hi, Thanks for the update on the old place. You mentioned the loud music from next door. What would this be ?? Just asking because of finding watering holes for next year. Regards, Ron..

Ron, Last year the building near the beach towards Golden Beach and next to the fire lookout post, was belting out very loud music. The local hoteliers were all complaining. I think it is run by the same family that destroyed the peace at Marble Beach the other year.
