Went to Thassos for the 1st time last year and enjoyed it very much, stayed at the Socrates, lovely area, not too busy, has anyone got any recommendations for other areas on the island?
Basically looking for close to the beach and easy walking everywhere as my wife has trouble.
I’m sure there must be many, but thought I would try experienced people rather than endless website hunting.

re alternate places to stay
We have stayed on Thassos for 4 out of the past 5 years. Where to stay depends upon what you want. There are lots of lovely settings with hotels on beaches, but we prefer the quiet of the Socrates. Skala Rachoni comes close and some of the southern areas such as Aliki are nice. But having seen the others, we are returning to the Socrates again this summer. I wish you well in you quest. Enjoy Thassos one of the best kept secrets in the Aegean.

Thanks for your input, yes, we liked the Socrates too, George could not do enough for my wife, especially with her walking difficulties!
I did walk along the coast to Skala Rachoni and liked the look of, nice restaurants on the beach etc.
Would be interested to know more about Aliki though.

knowing more about Aliki / Thassos
Hi Cashey,
we bought the book "A-Z of Thassos" by Tony Oswain (can be got through Amazon. It gives you loads of ideas for things to do and explore and a run down of towns etc. Well worth buying if you intend to visit frequently. I don't have it to hand as I'm working overseas at the moment, but I'm sure it has a feature on Aliki.
Aliki is to the south of the Island and has a couple of beautiful beaches. Not sure if its as accessable as Prinos.
The beauty of the Island is that wherever you stay, everywhere is within easy reach.
Regards
Al

Well that's it...
Hotel confirmed and deposit deposited.
Going to The Pavlidis again as it is such a peaceful place, in a convenient location and run by wonderful people

What time of the year are you going Cashey? We're stuck to August because of work, but would love to go at a different time (one day...).

Unsure yet as to date, August would be a good time as the 21st means I have spent 50 years on the planet!
But still trying to sort that as lots of people want to join me to celebrate/commiserate, we went in June last year to coincide with the Euros, was a fantastic atmosphere in the bars supporting Greece as they played their games.
Had a quick look at The Pavlidis, not really my cup of tea, we like to be right away from it all and struggle with the Greek language, but thanks for your input, appreciate it.

15th time on Thassos Island (sad but we love it )
Samos is supposed to be nice too isn't it? Are there similarities between the 2 Islands?
I'm just hoping there is at least one other child at the hotel as I'm going with my 9 year old daughter and it would be lovely for her to have a play pal
. She loves swimming so I can see her spending all her time running between the pool and the sea!
Where are you flying from? We're going from Birmingham...

Quite some time ago Samos was very laid back like Thassos but it became " touristy" and very cosmopolitan so it was time to move on.I'm sure that your daughter will find a play mate whilst you are on Thassos.Being a Lancashire lass we are flying from Manchester.deblee hat geschrieben:Samos is supposed to be nice too isn't it? Hi again Sharon,
I remember you said you were going on the 11th but I didn't realise you were also flying from Birmingham
.
We were weighing up whether it was best to go from Gatwick or Birmingham but decided Birmingham was better in the end...and cheaper!!!
It would be fab if our daughters could meet up along the way...makes things so much easier when they get a little friend doesn't it??!!
You gave me some good feedback about the Med apartments which confirmed that we should go for it, so thanks!
Are you counting the days like me??
