Car hire - Thesaloniki

Hi all,

Been to Thassos for the last 7 years but this year we are going to avoid Thomsons and do it ourselves. We did this in 2008 when we got married on the island.

Easyjet seem the cheapest from Gatwick to Thessalonika and we want to hire a car for the duration of our stay. Any idea who the best car hire company would be at the airport? Obviously they would have to allow cars on the ferry.

hi, all the main car hire companies are at thessalonika airport. another not far away is autounion. try the comparision sites for best prices. the prices vary depending on what time of the year. regards, vinnie

We have been doing the same journey for four years now and hired a car from Potos car rental. You collect it at arrivals and deliver it back at departures. Always on there and on time.

The journey from Thessaloniki to Keramoti is easy and takes about 2 hours. When you get on the motorway there is a toll in one place, cost 1 euro. Keep on the motorway until you see signs for Keramoti, do not leave for Kavala.

The ferry fare is approx 24 euros for a car and 2 passengers.

Seems to me more people are snubbing the tour operators, and doing it themselves. We have used Thomsons for the last 5 trips to Thassos, but this year we are doing it ourselves, flying easyjet from Manchester to Thessaloniki, hiring a carat the airport and driving to Thassos, Can't wait till June

Sadly for us in Newcastle by the time you add on travel costs to Manchester, hotel, meal expenses etc we cannot do it cheaper than a Thomson package. If anyone knows differently please let me know the details thanks

Has anybody used Tipoa car rental ? I've got a pretty good quote from them, picking up from Thessaloniki airport, and they say I can take it on the ferry to Thassos.

I haven't used Tipoa but the quote is very competitive.

I've never had a problem with Potos car hire P/U & D/O at Thessaloniki airport. Just ring up a couple of days beforehand and away you go. If booking over the internet i'd do it a good week in advance although i usually ring.

Recommend Potos also. Never had a problem. Good cars delivered on time. Enjoy your stay.

Just had another look at Tipoa. Would you believe their prices are identical to the penny to Argus so I think they may be the same company.
