The highlight of Tracy and I's holiday was our last day
We decided that we would go early one morning to see the day break on the eastern side of the Accropolis hill. We nearly didn't make it, but, on our last morning we dove out of bed at 4:00am.
We set of through the town and met a few stragglers out of the night club. We headed up the track behind the old harbour up to the Church of the Apostles on the penninsular above Karnagio. It was beautifully moonlit and strangely, as we couldn't see the rocks in the track, we seemed to walk on fearlessly.
We walked up past the eastern side of the amphitheatre where the track was lamplit and a (allbeit, smelly and mossey ridden) toilet with toilte roll!. Up past the other little church to the bottom gate of the Accropolis.
When we arrived there it was still dark so we decided to sit on a rock in the steps up to the accropolis and wait for the day break.
We were not dissapointed
We heard the hum of the fishing boats going out from Limenas and soon a light red haze came on the horizon. About ten minutes later a hazey red dot began to appear. The sun was rising.
Later, when the daylight enabled, we looked out over the sea. Tracy noticed several little black dots bobing throught the water. As the light became brighter it was plane to see they were dolphins swimming across the bay to Limenas Bay
A few minutes later we heard a goat bell followed by a goat.....no two......no three....no a whole herd of goats. One of the goats just stood about 5 or 6 yards up the track and stared at us!! the others slowly made thier way behind him down the hill. We decided NOT to carry on up to the Accropolis!!!
When the sun had fully shown itself by about 7:30 we set of back down with something so solid and strong in our hearts
