NEW FLIGHTS FOUND FROM BIRMINGHAM

Beitrag von tigerman »

I have just been looking on the Cosmos/Monarch site & Birmingham came up as one of the UK airports they are flying out of to Thassos. Looks like flights are Tuesdays at around 10.55 & outbound flight is via Skiathos. Flights start on 27/05/14, return flight is direct to Birmingham landing in the evening. :D

That's great but at the same time really annoying! We booked with Monarch in January for this August, but booked from Manchester as that (and Gatwick) was the only option offered, but we're south Nottinghamshire so Birmingham would have been much better. Let's hope they do it again next year.

I know it's quite a bit cheaper with Cosmos/Monarch, but the flight out to Thassos via Skiathos is soooo long - it seems like a waste of a whole day. On the plus side... at least it's some competition for Thomson!!

We had nearly booked with cosmos back in December flying out of Manchester as it is better journey for Us rather than Gatwick. So was pleased to find the Birmingham flight option (we only live 3/4 hour from airport) Usually We go with thompsons flying from Birmingham, but their prices are higher for this year & they seem to be charging for everything from seat selection to the extra 5 kilos you used to get free (was 20 kilos of luggage now 15 kilos) Have still to book holiday but looking forward to going with cosmos & going via Skiathos will be different (also the extra 3 hours sleep a bonus) plus Tuesday rather than Sunday.

Have You asked Monarch if it is possible to change from Manchester to Birmingham?

Hi Tigerman,

I would have done but we've already booked a non-refundable hotel in Manchester for the evening before and also valet carparking (booking so early got good bargains)

The Manchester flight is earlier than Brum and arrives mid-afternoon, so I don't mind so much in that respect - it's just nice coming back to Birmingham knowing it's only about 3/4 hour to get home.

Last year we did Gatwick-Thessaloniki so Manchester will seem like a bonus compared to that and whatever airport we fly from it will, as always, be an amazing holiday, even though it will be our 13th time

We have also done the Gatwick-Thessaloniki route 3 years ago & loved it all until We were stuck on the M40 for 5hrs coming back. So try to avoid flying out of Gatwick if at all possible. Like You We just know Our next time on the Island will be fab & to meet up with all the friends We have met during Our holidays on the Island (think We are around 30 times there) Oh & nearly forgot to mention the anticipation of that first glass of Mythos!!!

30 times! Crikey we're newbies then compared to you. I bet you've seen a lot of changes - we have seen Golden Beach change so much since our first visit in 1999 but compared to other holidays we've had it is still relatively unspoilt
Friends think we're mad to go to the same place every year but I just tell them "if you went you'd understand"

This will be my 30th year!!

I have spent 5 whole summers on the island and visit at least once a year sometimes only in the winter for carnival or like last year for 5 days, but it still does it for me although the changes on the island are speeding up! not always for the better.

Over the years We have seen many changes & like Big Al says some good & some not. One change nearly cost Us our lives, when the costal road was being made into two lanes by the fish farm towards Skala Rahoni. Two men with red flags had to stop the traffic when there was a danger of boulders falling into the road. So We were stopped & then waved on, We only managed a few yards when a boulder the size of a small lorry came crashing down onto the road one yard in front of Us. We laugh about it now every time We drive past the spot. We usually try to go every year, sometimes twice if We're lucky. Had My 50th in February three years ago on the Island & walked along golden beach with not one person or sunbed in sight (bliss) :) :D

Good spot Big Al, after looking on website think We might go with them this summer & book accommadation locally. Have wanted to do this for years but didn't want to fly out from Gatwick or Heathrow. It's about time airlines/travel companies realized there are other airports other than the London ones. ;)
