Gardenia

Blimey!
You must like it there then and seen some changes?
I went for the 1st time this year in June and loved it, only stayed in Skala Prinos basically, but there was a nice feel to the place.

I will be going back next year, so what advice can you give in general, I plan to see a lot more of the island.

Oh, yes. I favour Thassos over many places I have travelled.I lived there for 20 years and married in the local church in Limenas.I generally stay in Pachis or Rachoni close to Likos because I like the peace and quiet. This year I will be staying in Limenas. I have seen many a change and many a beach ruined under a sea of parasols and sun beds. I believe Golden beach has been ruined by all the changes and the natural beauty does not shine through the decking and building up to the seafront.Just my opinion as a local so to speak. I guess one has to move on but I dislike crowded beaches and loud beach bars. i like to relax in the day and bump up the volume for the evening. I try to find deserted beaches. They are very few and far between now but September is a really good time for that. Giola is lovely and so is Thimonia and if you like quiet.

Thanks for the great info, I tend to agree with you as regards of still be able to find pockets of “real Greece”, I too like to be relaxed and like nothing better that mucking around on a beach and loads of snorkeling.

I am off to Crete on Saturday and have found such a lovely place just outside Georgioupolis where wildlife is rife, lovely taverna/apartments right on the beach, that’s heaven for me.

I shall take your advice on board for when I visit next year.
