Hi, everybody .Could anybody tell me if it is possible to drive a car up the hill at Smaragdi studios Golden beach , we fancy the views but not the climb , dont mind the climb for a couple of days but at our ages we might need pacemakers by the end of the holiday.
It's tough going but we got dropped off by a Thomson coach and made it up there on a motorbike easily There were a number of tiny scooters up there too so a car should make it easily enough!!! On foot you might like to admire the view half way up so that your calf muscles can make the second half. (There appears to be at least one cardiac hill in every island in Greece from the forums I've read to date).
there were number of car users when we stayed there last month. The Thomson coach got up the hill no problem.
However we did not have a car just zig zagged across the road and by end of the week only noticed the hill over the last few yards.Well worth the hike for the great views
When I stayed there I hired a car from Potos Rentals at the bottom of the hill. As I only wanted it for to and froing to the hotel I asked if they could find a cheap banger for me. Worked out at less than half the normal price. Also arrange to drop off on the day of departure so you can take all your luggage down and get picked up on the main road.
There should definately be a health warning for this hill though. Us old codgers do find it a bit of a drain on the energy reserves not to mention those hardly used leg muscles.
Also if getting a car start practising your hill starts using the handbrake... Enjoy... I did. Ron.

Ah Mythos the genuine article. As recommended by Zeus.
..... Another alternative, hire a scooter for the period of your stay, it's really handy for buzzing up and down "that hill"! There is really just the one road around the island and during the day the roads are pretty quiet.
We've stayed up there most years since 2000. We always have a jeep as we love all the mountain tracks but a normal car will make it up the hill with no problem.
That said in the evenings we always walk down (and back up!). I've done it pregnant and then for a few years pushing a buggy and I'm not a fit person. Over the years it has developed into a "challenge" with my husband and son (now 10) to make it to the top without stopping - I made it this year (August 2011) in one go for the first time!
I cannot recommend staying there enough - as people say for the views (pic attached) but mostly for the warm hospitality you'll receive at the top at the bar.
Thanks everybody for your comments , we,ve booked for two weeks in May the 20th till 3 June .Cant wait to see the views. My wife says she taking an oxygen bottle just in case .
we went the last 2 weeks in may this year, our 3rd visit in 3 years, and love the place.Costas & Katerina, your hosts are lovely and can't do enough for you, just be warned, some of Costas's measures behind the bar are very, very, large, lol.
Regarding the hill, after the 1st week you will be flying up it,its quite funny watching the"newbies"walking up it the 1st week, and seeing the same people sailing up it the 2nd week.
If you wish to know anything else just ask,and if i can i will answer you.One last thing, you will fall in love with Thassos, without even trying.
