I've just been to change my stirling to Euro's. I've been following the exchange rates online for the past few weeks. Most of the big UK travel agencies and Post Office give good deals on no fee transactions.
I'm going to Thassos next week and decided the rate offered was favouravle at just under 1.17 (£520 = 600 Euros). The same rate is quotedwhether or not youbuy online or go to the shop.
However when I got into town, the rates quoted were nothing like those online and I was quoted £544 for 600 Euro's.
Always out for a bargain, I quoted the rate I had seen and that I would go elsewhere. Guess what? Suddenly they found a preferential rate that they can give, so I got the rate I had seen online. (£24 better off).
So my advice is to stick to your guns and haggle for a better rate, they obviously have leeway. This is how they make their big money.
8 days to go! wey hey!!!
