Hi NIKNAC32....thanks for your reply. Being new to this forum I'm not exactly sure how to do a PM so I'll continue like this for now. It's great to be able to talk with someone who has been to Nostos, the info you have given is really good. I especially like the fact that one can get fresh baked stuff at 9:00 in the morning as I'm always an early riser (and my wife isn't!). Further, the owner George appears to be a friendly helpful bloke, we have always been lucky with our various hosts on Corfu, Crete and especially Thassos....it all just adds to the "magic" that is Greece.

Thanks also for the tips for tavernas, we don't drink a lot of alcohol, but do like to have wine with our meals, and I like the odd Mythos or 5 now and again! We missed out on our "Greek fix" last year because we had to have work done on the house so we are really really looking forward being back on Thassos again.

I wonder how much Thassos might have changed from the last tim e we were there (in 2003), now doubt there will be some good and perhaps some not so good.....but I can't wait to swim out into the bay at Aliki, or walk out for what seems miles at Makriammos beach, to sit and people watch at the old harbour in Thassos Town itself....or enjoy the theatre that is the cars and lorries leaving the ferries, (we actually saw a lorry shunt two cars out of the way once, and were glad it wasn't our hire car)

Thanks again for your reply....and in anticipation of seeing more from all the good folk who are Thassos lovers like us.

Hi Tucci,

You will not be disappointed with the Nostos they are so friendly, we have made many good friends from Thassos, both Greek and English.

You will probably notice new buildings have sprung up but I guess this is going to happen all over.

Enjoy your hols :o)

What first attracted me to have on holiday on Thassos.

Beitrag von Dave Drew »

It as 2003 and my stepdaughter was getting married in June. The preparations for the wedding were becoming a little tiresome so we decided to take a weeks holiday in May, returning in a more relaxed frame of mind for the event.

I received a call from my wife just before leaving the office one day saying “I’ve found a little Greek island called Thassos - you have to fly to Kavala - coach to a ferry port - do a 40 min crossing and have an apartment allocated on arrival. Does that sound OK?” I said it did and was told that was good because she had already booked it.

We had a fantastic holiday and will be returning this May for the 6th time. We always go back to the same apartments and just don’t tire of it all.

It’s just like a second honeymoon each time.

We have varied where we go each time but always include a trip to Golden Beach, Macro Prinos and Aliki. I don’t suppose this year will be all that different.

Not long to wait now,

Dave.

First sight of Thassos for us was in a Thomson (Simply Greece, I think) brochure in 1990 - a delightful picture of Golden Beach with very little except its beautiful sand, sea, a taverna and trees! How that view has changed now! We booked to go to Potos in the September of that year (now changed beyond recognition!) and one of our trips out was to Golden Beach where we had a delightful meal in the trees that surrounded Vigli taverna. We have returned on 3 occasions since (going again in June) staying in Limenas, Skala Potamia and Limenas respectively - always have to visit Potos and Golden Beach while we are there to mull over memories of 1990!!! Thassos has remained our favourite Greek island over the 20 years since we first visited - it has changed, obviously, but in a gentle sort of way and it is easy to avoid the changes that you feel uneasy with - for us, at present, Limenas provides the ideal base and the walk in and back from Thetis Studios is just enough to justify the eating and drinking we enjoy whilst there - also a good base to walk along to Nisteri beach. Roll on end of June!

Hi Shepre.....like you our favourate island is Thassos. We too have stayed at Thetis and throughly enjoyed it and Limenaria itself. We used to walk along the shore to the beach at Tarsannas and on an evening "ferry watch" on ocassions when cars were shunted out of the way of buses. Thassos was the first holiday we had had without our kids (love them dearly but it was sheer bliss!) I've often thought if it's possible to sum up the Thassos experience in one word, the one word for me would be "peaceful"...then others come into the frame such as ....beautiful, clean, quiet, friendly, interesting, even awesome simply because it's just Thassos.

Back in 1997, I was going up the wall at work and needed a break. Quick!

2 days after reading " A walkers paradise" on the Thomson website I was on a Brittania airways flight to Kavala.

Marvelllous!

BigAl hat geschrieben:Hi All

I had just returned from travelling around America and Canada in 1983 and didn't want to stay in the UK but being skint I did not know how to get away for the following summer.
It was then that I spotted an ad in the Daily Mirror I think it was asking for holiday reps, I applied and went to the interview in Brighton, got the job as all we talked about in the interview was the USA and Canada as the chap interviewing me had just returned himself.
I could of been sent to Camp Africa in Morocco, S of France, Ibiza, or this little Greek island that I had never heard of before called Thassos! luckily for me I was sent to Thassos for the summer of 1984 and the rest is history!! I have spent 5 summers working on the island over the years, used to have a share in a bar and visit 2/3 times a year.
Young World has a lot to answer for there are many ex-pats who went on holiday in the 80's and stayed!
26 years later I still love the place I don't like all that is happening on the island (Building) but it is still my favourite place in the world.

Yes,AlI remember I had never heard ofit and my first visit was 1978 ,as you know I married and lived there for some 20 years and still go back every summer so all in all about 31 years so I am Thassian by default. We have seen many changes over the years, some positive some negative and I'm with you Al ,too much building most of the changes were not needed. Seven weeks to go before my next trip. WooHoo

Curiosity is what attracted me to Thassos although i've always loved 'the islands', Thasos is without doubt the most 'individual'.

hi all we have been going to thassos for the past 3 years and are going back for the 4th year at the end of may we have always stayed at golden beach and last year we stayed in the nostos studios for the first time and loved it the people who own it are wonderfully friendly and the gardens are beautiful. we were going to go to sardinia this year and felt a bit sad to miss thassos but felt it would be a new adventure but fate intervened and good old british airways cancelled our flight so in a panic that we wouldn't get a holiday we boked finikis studios in thassos town my parents have stayed there a few times so now our new adventure is staying in a new resort but still in beautiful thassos best of both worlds!

Hi Jenzeis

An interesting post as like you we are going back to wonderful Thassos for the third time. We are going to Golden Beach to stay at Nostos Studios so any further information regarding their location etc will be very greatfully received. Strangely we have also stayed at Finekas in Thassos Town, they are in a good central location which is not too noisy and has easy access to all the local tavernas. Sorry to hear about your episode regarding Sardinia but like you we are looking forward so much to Thassos again.

Hi Tucci
the location of nostos is on the main road into golden beach if you turn left out of the apartments and walk a short distance you come to a road on the right that leads to the beach and supermarkets and a few taverna's if you don't turn and keep walking you will come to more tavernas a lovely shop called the sunny beach shop and another superemarket you can also continue round to the harbour which is a lovely little tiny harbour with good views over the bay. you will love nostos george is lovely as are all his staff.
enjoy your holiday. ;)
