Scorpions on Thassos

I saw some pictures of scorpions on the island? are they poisoning or dangerous? no one said anything, just posted the pictures....and also the wasps.. are they a thing to worry?

When I shook the bed sheet one morning, making the bed there in the middle of the mattress was a black scorpion- did I jump!
We asked Dina who owns our apartment and she said "the scorpions here are not dangerous", this just added another creature to our list of visitors.

A couple of years ago Mike opened the front door as we were going out and a snake slithered in between his legs, he screamed in terror and looked like he was attempting the triple jump at the Olympics!!!
That time we were told that there are two types of snakes on the Island, one was known as the blind snake and was harmless but the other went for the throat if it felt trapped. Never found out which one we had.

oh my god....in the bed, between the sheets? i have to believe you if you say that they are not dangerous....what else can i do? hope not to see one , not even outdoors....but in between the sheets....i promise to check every night the bed thanks for the story

Wake up to the birds singing and relax & enjoy (then hunt for the scorpions!)

we won't feed the birds with crumbs then...we'll let them feed therselves with some scorpions snacks

oh my, scorpions and snakes....!

I always check the bedroom out for bugs before I get into bed anyway, although have only ever found cockroaches and mozzies!

We stay in Skala Potamias.

Didn't see anything for years but the last couple have been eventful, I am not trying to worry people, just make them aware that there is local wildlife to be found!

Well, we got back yesterday from Thassos, and we had 1 scorpion in the room! I thought my boyfriend was joking, but he wasn't. luckily it was only a small one. We were told by Dave from the Garden Bar that they come up through the shower plug hole, so he suggested we put a shampoo bottle or something similar in the plug hole (Or a plug if you have one!) which seemed to do the trick, as that was the last one we saw!

My son had an encounter with a scorpion on Thassos a few years ago. It was a small scorpion and the bite was itchy, like a mosquito-bite. It didn't bother him all that much. My husband (who's originally from Panagia), didn't seem to be too worried about it, so I wasn't either. My son was very proud about his bite and told everyone at home that he was bitten by a 'scampion' (too little to pronounce it properly).

Hope you don't encounter them though, because if they don't bite, they give you the shivers.........
