Just had a bit of a shock. Called at Travel agents to get a few euros and had a look at the 2008 brochure, Versa studios not in, hope this is a mistake, surely not another small owner being discarded by the big boys! Does anybody know anything. We shall being staying there 3rd -10th June.

I don't know about the Versa being discarded by the 'big boys' but we stayed at the Makrina in Skala Potamia a few years ago with Golden Sun (before they went bust!) and when we looked for the Makrina the following year in brochures it wasn't there - not because it had been discarded by the big companies but because the owners had decided to go it alone rather than have the pressure the tour companies put on them!!
Maybe it's the same with the Versa - and after all, if you love it, it's not that difficult to go independently - after that first time outside of the comfort zone, it's easy. You can keep the prices down if you're prepared to be flexible. I had to wait until after our easter trip to book for the summer because of too many unknowns and I thought I'd left it too late to get reasonable flights but have managed to get August flights for £195 each to Thessaloniki ...... even with the car hire - it's very favourable compared to charters to Kavala!!

A very big Efharisto Poli to Babs and Aldo to recommending Room 11 at the Versa. I requested it and got it! Massive airy room all in blue and white. 2 balconies (only 1 you sat on).It must have been 35c on the balcony at 5pm everyday!. Soula the landlady is lovely. Would definitely request that room every time!!! I took a photo of us all to show Soula and she was delighted!Thanks Babs and Aldo!

I'm so glad you liked the Versa and that studio in particular,we stayed there the first time we went to Thassos and never saw any reason to stay anywhere else because it was so nice and Sula and the family were so friendly .
Unfortunately the Versa doesn't appear in next years brochure so it looks like Thomson don't know what people like and want , and for us that's another nail in the coffin of the package holiday.
It seems that we will have to make our own arrangements next time we visit Thassos (as we do on most of our other holidays).

Gave them your love.Asked reps why Versa not in 2008 brochure and they said they hope that its just that its this time of the year that contracts are exchaged and that it will appear in next edition! Hope so!. Was a fantasticc, quiet and very Greek week. Karnagio was fantastic as very quiet!. Can,t wait to return! xx

Hi all
Just to say that most of the reasons that some hotels and studios are not appearing in holiday brochures is because the tour operators offer such bad money, they expect most of the hoteliers to virtually give away their rooms for zilch, if you notice, most of the price of a package holiday is made up of the flight. The people who live on the island have to make enough money in the summer season (by way of which it is only 4 months long) to see them through the winter season, also when Thomas Cook pulled out of Thassos it caused a lot of problems also Golden Sun when they went down a lot of hoteliers lost a lot of money, I know of people here who have got a hotel and the money that the tour operators offer just about covers the costs of having cleaners come in on change over day, as this is the day when so much cleaning has to be done in a day ready for the new customers.
What you have got to realise is the tour operators offer as little as 15-20euros a day per room and the summer season is 120 days so as you can see it is not a lot of money and the hotels can make more money by private bookings, this is why I do not go through tour operators and just go via the internet most people can find cheap flights here and to pay a hotelier 40-50euros a night is cheaper for the customer and helps the hotelier.
Any way I wish you all great holidays here on Thassos and hope that some of you pop along for a drink or 2.
