I mentioned earlier about all the proposed new buildings going up between Golden Beach and S/Potamia , well the next two photos show the first stages. Clearing old buildings ready to start building the new.
This shot shows where a place once stood. Ron.

Now this shot shows what they have done with materials of the building. Piled it up just across the road. Dosn't look much once its all broken down dos it ? Any one want to buy this pile and re-erect it back at home. Will make you feel like you are permanently on holiday. Ron.

The restaurant that stood on this site was one of our favourites.

This was the owner...I remember he was from Kavala City and I think his name was Georgios or something similar..Does anyone know if he has opened up elsewhere as his chips are well worth tracking down.

I think a lot of the wood pile is what was the decking on the beach side.
I remember it was close to a stagnant pool and a fair few insects
frequented the establishment.. My wife had a very large flying beetle go down her top whilst eating here. The screams were heard at Thassos Town . If it had been me it would have been Keromoti.

This is foundations of new building on road from Skala Potania to golden Beach not far from the camp.

It will be interesting to see how this developes and how long it takes....

Hi Ron,

I've only been to Thassos in the month of May and have only ever seen the odd wasp. I have been thinking of going in september one of these times. Are the wasps only a problem in September or have I just been lucky each time I've been there? (My wife might just have a bit of a problem with lots of the little *******'s)

You seem to have enjoyed your last trip despite the wasps. Good photos so far. Hope to see more.

Dave if you go to Golden Beach area in Sept you will have to co-exist with the wasps. You will just have to hope that rains early in the year are heavy enough to wash away the nests, if not my friend .
Back to the building thread again. Have you noticed how some places atvertised what great views could be had from their rooms. Well watch out in future as folks are stating to build right in front of other premises and obscuring the view. Now here is a classic example of what I mean. Here you can see the The Ioannis Hotel in the background that boasts of its lovely views of the sea from the rooms. Don't think they will be able to say that in the future. As you can see another construction is under way which will inevatably block all views . I wonder what it's going to be ? Any ideas ? Ron.

As you saw previously the new buildings going up. But what about the uncompleted ones? Now take this one, has not been touched for ages. Does anybody know if it ever will be ? Must have been a good idea at the time. Ron.

I think Golden Beach/Skala Potamia are in real danger of being ruined by the amount of building that is going on down there.
Some call it progress but I'm not so sure Yes it's still a beautiful bay but the sand dunes have almost disappeared and the amount of red roofs you can see from the road up past Panagia increases every year.

Now take the old olive tree, did you know that each tree has an owner. My mate Dave who has this overgrown olive tree blocking his view of the sea right in front of his bar. The rigmarole he had to go through just to prune the branches back. First find the owner, get his permission or compensate him, then only prune the branches tha the owner thinks appropriate. The owner changed his mind three times. I wouldnt mind but the olives arn't even collected for processing. Ron.

Talking about Dave and his bar ,the next two photos show what a change of ownership can do. First one taken last year when it was called The Starfish Bar followed by the most recent shot taken this Sept after Dave and his Partner Diane took it over. Ron.

Now this years shot of the place and its changed its name to The Garden Bar. I believe diane wants to call it The Jungle Bar next year. Ron.

The bloody wreck. Well what now. Does it stay here to rot or get moved on. Salvage or scrap ? I dunno. At least its not on S/Pots beach anymore. But then again it dosn't do much for this scenery here does it ? Do you think any of those cotton seeds will grow. ?
