First time to Thassos

Hi, I am visiting Thassos for the first time in July for one week. Can anybody please recommend some 'must-sees' while I am there? Even a suggested itinerary would be appreciated. Many thanks Martin

Hi Martin,

just drive around the Island, ist is small enough for You will see many "must-see" on the way, and for the rest..... just stop every 15 km for a greek coffe or frappé and ask the people there

Archeological must-see is IMO the Amphitheatre (Limenas) and in Limenas-city the ancient city, and in Aliki the ancient city.

I am sure some other User will tell you more.

A favourite for us is to hire a small jeep and go on the dirt roads up into the mountains. Kastro, waterfall, Ipsario and wonderful views from there. Great fun!

Hi Martin,

The Monastery of Archangel Michael in Thassos is a must see. It is located on the road towards Alyki, about 25 km to the south of Limenas. It is the biggest and the most famous monastery of Thassos and it was built in the 18th century!

Places to visit on Thasos surely include the old Limenas (Amphitheatre, Akropolis, Temple, Agora), the sunken marble works in Skala Aliki, Krea Nera in Panagia (seven wells meet there, a refreshing place in hot summer) and some of the mountain villages like Kazaviti.
